Miss Lonelyhearts was a newspaper reporter assigned to answer the letters from the desperate and disillusioned. Caught up in the vision of suffering, he seeks a way out, turning to art, sex and religion. The Day of the Locust chronicles Tod Hackett's attempt to make a career as a Hollywood set designer only to find himself among the many struggling toward the same goal surrounded by the wealth and boredom of southern California.
